Nursing Services

Committed to excellence in nursing education, practice, and regulation.

The Department of Nursing Services under the Ondo State Ministry of Health is entrusted with the critical responsibility of regulating and enhancing the quality of nursing care across the state. It serves as a key institutional framework for ensuring that nursing practices, training institutions, and professionals align with established standards and contribute effectively to the state's healthcare delivery system.

A core function of the department is the consistent monitoring and supervision of nursing activities within the state. This oversight is vital in preventing the proliferation of unqualified practitioners and ensuring that only licensed, professionally trained nurses are engaged in service delivery. The department works tirelessly to uphold professional ethics and maintain public trust in nursing care.

To build a competent and responsive nursing workforce, the department actively organizes and supports the continuous training and retraining of nurses across Ondo State. This professional development initiative ensures that nurses are equipped with the latest clinical knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding required for modern healthcare challenges.

The department also oversees the establishment and operation of nursing and midwifery training institutions. It conducts pre-accreditation assessments for new Schools of Nursing and Midwifery to ensure compliance with national standards before formal accreditation. Additionally, it carries out routine monitoring of these institutions to safeguard the quality of education and promote the production of highly skilled graduates.

In its advisory capacity, the Department of Nursing Services provides expert guidance to the government on policies and decisions affecting the nursing profession. This includes making informed recommendations that shape legislative and administrative actions aimed at improving nursing care and welfare in the state.

Furthermore, the department facilitates the processing and renewal of professional licenses for nurses in collaboration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. This ensures that all practicing nurses in Ondo State are duly registered, qualified, and authorized to deliver safe and competent care.

Through its multifaceted roles, the Department of Nursing Services remains a cornerstone in strengthening the health system of Ondo State, promoting excellence in nursing education and practice, and ensuring the protection of public health.
