The SMEP has a mandate to coordinate and implement activities of Malaria Elimination at all levels of health care in the State in accordance with the National Strategic Plan. All of these activities are classified into specific thematic areas of the SMEP for maximum and efficient health care service delivery. The thematic areas are; Programme Management, Case Management, Monitoring and evaluation, Integrated Vector Management and Control, and the Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization.
The prevalence rate of malaria in the State is currently 21%(NMIS 2015). It is expected that the mass ITN replacement campaign which will be carried out in the last quarter of this year (2021) will help to crash this Prevalence value to lower figures. This ITN campaign will be implemented in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium (MC) United Kingdom.
We currently have JHPIEGO as the only supporting partner in area of Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria in Pregnancy (IPTp). The intervention programme which is otherwise known as Transforming Intermittent Preventive Treatment for Optimal Pregnancy (TIPTOP) has been ongoing in Akure South LGA only since three years. This intervention programme which has made significant impact in the IPTP uptake among pregnant women in the targeted LGA will close by the end of first quarter of year 2022.
The SMEP is open to private organizations, individuals and corporate organizations both local and international to ensure the actualization of the vision to achieve a malaria free Ondo State.
Vision: To have a Malaria Free State.
Mission : To provide equitable, comprehensive, cost effective, efficient and quality malaria control services ensuring transparency, accountability, client satisfaction, community ownership and partnership.
