In the commitment of the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa's administration to provide quality, affordable, accessible, effective and efficient healthcare services for the good people of the State, the new University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital Akure complex building will be completed for commissioning on or before December 2024.
This was disclosed during a tripartite inspection activity by the Ministry of Health, Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health and the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka stated "the project will be a one stop shop for medical care as all facilities and services would be embedded in the building which would make Ondo State a medical hub for healthcare services and there won't be any need for getting services outside the State upon completion"
According to him, the Akure and Ondo UNIMEDTH projects have reached 90 percent completion and the State was willing to speed up completion by making funds available for the Contractor to complete the project before December 2024.
He allayed the fears of the good people of the State by saying the services that will be provided will be affordable as the Ondo State Government has put in place Health Insurance Scheme for the formal sector and is set to introduce same for the informal sector of the State emphasizing that there won't be any barrier for anyone.
For human resources, the Commissioner hinted that the recruitment of health workers was almost concluded and in matters of days, the list would be out.
Also the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Hon. Akinwumi Sowore, delighted and impressed with the modern architecture promised that they would do everything in their capacity to make sure that payment was made.
He commended the Contractor and those who conceived the idea of the Hospital Complex saying Ondo State would have a befitting hospital in the State while the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Prof Micheal Odimayo explained that the Governor gave the mandate to fast track all projects to make sure that they are delivered immediately.
Prof. Odimayo confirmed that the project has gone far and on completion would serve the people of the State as the Government is committed to commissioning of the project before December.
The representative of the Contractor on the job, Solab Nigeria Limited, Engineer Tajudeen Aliu said the civil work has reached 90 percent completion while the total work was at 75 percent and in 10-15 weeks, with all things being equal, the job would be delivered.
On completion, the project on a 2,500sqm will have 250 Beds, 9 Wards, 3 Ultra modern theatre suites with 24 hours back up power supply, 130 Toilets, Laboratory, Pharmacy, X-ray and CT scan room, Seminar Rooms, 21 Offices, Private Wards and Call Rooms for Doctors.
