Department Functions
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to enforce the public health law for promotion of environmental hygiene and safety.
  • Establish standards for food hygiene and safety for all food vending outlets in the State and conduct routine monitoring and inspection of food vending site for laboratory and physical assessment of compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of justice, Ministry of Environment and relevant law enforcement agencies to operationalize a task force on enforcement of environmental hygiene and safety.
  • Develop, disseminate and enforce occupational health laws and policies among employers.
  • Conduct population based surveys in collaboration with the department of Planning, research & Statistics of the Ministry to determine the population level status of health for important health indicators of public goods.
  • Develop a framework of implementable activities from the national strategic plans for the prevention and control of non-communicable disease towards attaining global targets and goals.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate communities, MDAs, Partners and investors to eliminate malaria from the State.
  • Collaborate with Partners and communities to promote elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
  • Develop and disseminate public health information and policies and coordinate public health actions for disease preventions and control in partnership with relevant agencies.
  • Work with other MDAs to achieve healthy population status.
