CSIS set to strengthen health relationship with Ondo State.

Three years ago, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Washington DC, USA hosted Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko. He mention then that improving Maternal and Child Healthcare (MCH) in the state is top of his priority.


Consequently, the representative of CSIS, Mr Richard Downie paid a follow up visit to the Governor of Ondo State Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Dayo Adeyanju and some key members of staff on the progress achieved in Maternal and Child Health in Ondo State. His visit is to improve Nigeria - USA health relationship and to see what the successes are and what are the challenges.


Mr. Richard is the Deputy Director and Fellow, CSIS Africa Program funded by Bill and Melinda gates foundation and his responsible in providing advice to US government on foreign policies. During his visit to Ondo State, he was impressed with the progress made in the State health care system, he applauded the free healthcare available to mother and child, while also complimenting the system that allows the healthcare to function properly and efficiently. He also said that the professionalism displayed by the health personnel and the incentives introduced to improve health care delivery encourages people to seek healthcare service at different level of care in the state.


In his statement, he said that he is learning a lot on his visit to the State and promised to take back the achievement of Abiye Safe Motherhood and other healthcare program in the State which are good practices that other State should replicate.


The Dr Dayo Adeyanju thanked Mr Richard for his visit and his comments will stimulate the State Government to do more. He said that the State is doing everything possible to see how they can ensure the sustainability and consolidation of the good works. He added that Ondo State is happy to help other states and other nations, to improve their healthcare. He reiterated that the program is sustainable since the required infrastructures are already put in place, except for the recurrent expenditures which also is relatively cheap to maintain.
