As part of efforts geared towards eliminating malaria in Ondo State, the Department of Public Health of the Ministry of Health has organised a 2-Day Capacity Building Workshop on the review of the Year 2021 Annual Operational Plan(AOP)for malaria elimination in the state.

Declaring the workshop held at Grand Capital Hotel, Alagbaka, Akure open, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist(Mrs.) Folukemi Aladenola charged participants to carry out a holistic appraisal of the malaria situation in Ondo State and come out with a robust operational plan on the elimination of the disease.

While noting that the workshop becomes imperative towards ensuring proper and effective implementation of the various projects and programmes on malaria, Aladenola expressed optimism that with the array of experts participating in the workshop, the outcome will engender more successes in the war against malaria.

Describing the health sector in Ondo State as one big family, the Permanent Secretary commended and appreciated the medical partner, JHPIEGO for doing a good job saying JHPIEGO has always been consistent in assisting the Ministry of Health in the implementation of health plans and programmes in Ondo State.

Also speaking at the workshop, the Director, Public Health in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Richard Adesoji said the workshop is designed to review the current annual operational plan for malaria and also identify the gaps in the areas of finances and implementation.

Adesoji noted that this is necessary in order to take well informed decisions on the preparations for another operational plan for the upcoming year 2022.

"We are planning for 2022, we need to plan ahead in order to eliminate deficiencies in our operational framework. The planning involves all the stakeholders in the various thematic areas", he said.

Adesoji urged participants at the workshop to ensure full participation and put in their best as Ondo State is known for the best.

The Malaria Focal Person in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Samuel Adu averred that the annual workshop is an assembly of experts from different thematic areas who are expected to brainstorm on the annual operational plan on malaria.

Adu said the participants at the workshop who were drawn from the Ministry of Health and other agencies in the state's health sector including the Hospitals Management Board (HMB) and the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) are expected to develop a new annual operational plan for malaria in Ondo State for the next year 2022 based on the possible gaps that must have been identified in the current operational plan.

He added that the stakeholders in the state's health sector are equally expected to come up with a very formidable document on malaria elimination for the upcoming year 2022 towards ensuring a malaria free Ondo State.
